why do people call Champcar “F1″?

Because it means ‘Formula 1′ which is what the western world calls champcars ;P

Who in the western world calls champcars F1? American calls it CART racing. Europeans will most likely incrrectly refer it as Indy Car racing.

F1, Champ Car, and INDY are 3 different ones. Especially F1 being way different. May look the same but it’s not the same.
